Digital Transformation and an Innovative Approach for Applications in Automotive and Machinery SMEs

Abstract

In this seminar, an overview of Industrial Revolutions and Digital Transformation will be provided. Industry 4.0 and Digital Transformation enabling technologies, some related standards, and developments in Germany, European Union, and Türkiye will also be discussed. Information will be given about the METU-BİLTİR Digital Transformation Platform. Aims, current status, future plans for the activities, and collaboration opportunities of the ongoing “METU-Digital Innovation Center” EU IPA Project will be presented.
Short Bio

Prof. Dr. Gökler received his B.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1979, and a Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK in 1983. He was appointed as mechanical engineering instructor in 1983, assistant professor in 1985, associate professor in 1987, and professor in 1998 at METU. While he teaches Manufacturing Technologies and Engineering Economy courses in the department, he has also been the director of METU-BİLTİR Research and Application Center since 1999. The center provides services to the industry through R&D projects and especially to the automotive industry through vehicle safety tests. Prof. Gökler is a founding member of DÖVSADER Turkey Forgers’ Association, MATİM Machine Design and Production Society of Türkiye, and AUSDER Association of Intelligent Transportation Systems of Türkiye. He was NATO Applied Vehicle Technology Panel Member from 2007 through 2010, and NATO Science and Technology Board Member from 2015 through 2018. Prof. Gökler founded the METU-BİLTİR Center Digital Transformation Platform in 2016. He is the EU IPA “METU Digital Innovation Center Project” Coordination Unit Director. He was the Co-Chair of the DTSS 2018 and DTSS 2019 International Conference and Exhibition on Digital Transformation and Smart Systems. He has been the chair of OTEP Automotive Technology Platform Digital Transformation Working Group since 2017.
